Units
Units describe what the numbers represent. Examples of commonly used units: kilometers, miles, hours, seconds... but the units can be anything you are comparing!!!!! apples, shoes, students, kittens, etc. |
The UNIT RATE is super important to our daily lives! Why??? Because it is usually the easiest way for us to compare 2 things!
Example of why Unit Rates make our life easier....
Imagine you scored 8 goals in 6 soccer games. Your friend scored 7 goals in 5 games. Wow, both of you are GOOD huh?!!
But who scores more GOALS PER (1) GAME??? Do you know? This is hard right?!?
If we change 8 goals in 6 soccer games to a Unit Rate it equals ========== 1.3 goals per game
If we change 7 goals in 5 games to a Unit Rate it equals ========== 1.4 goals per game
Now it is EAZZZZZZY to see your friend averages more goals per game then you.
